ABOUT CHEW UP
This small work consists of the sentence Chew Up Your Love Then Swallow and is taken from the song Open Passageways by All Them Witches. The letters are cutouts from two birthday cards sent by the same person. Coincidentally, this song was playing when receiving the second card and thus a connection was made between the text and the emotional experience of the reader. Taking these letters to create a new font in this way simultaneously mimics the aesthetics of anonymity of a threat letter as seen in movies.
The outspoken and visceral nature of the lyrics are combined with the sensible roughness of the sanding paper background. The notion to chew and swallow (ones love) (the cards) (the paper) (the message) (the words) therefore also becomes rough.
